This past week at Parishable Store has been eventful, filled with stories behind the items sold and a few lessons learned along the way. As a reseller, every sale isn’t just about dollars and cents—it’s about each item’s journey and the people it touches. Here’s a rundown of the past week’s highlights:
The Answering Machine and the Unexpected Offers
One of the more interesting moments of the week involved a vintage phone answering machine set I had listed for $35. It sparked some memorable offers, starting with a $10 bid I declined. Then came an offer from an 83-year-old man for $28. While the offer was closer to my asking price, he mentioned he couldn’t pay until the first of the month and couldn’t afford batteries for the machine. Though I considered gifting it to him, I learned he had found a different one, which made me smile—sometimes the right thing finds its way to the right person.
First Sale to the Virgin Islands
One standout sale was an item my wife doubted would ever sell. Not only did it sell, but it also marked a milestone for Parishable Store—it was shipped to the Virgin Islands! This was a first for us, and it also reinforced the idea that you never know who might need what you have to offer.
Gluten-Free Thanksgiving and Two Quick Sales
Tuesday brought a unique twist to the week: packaging two sales before heading to my mother’s house for a gluten-free Thanksgiving. It felt fitting to end the day of gratitude with a sense of accomplishment. Both sales were straightforward and served as a reminder of how fulfilling it is to see items move on to their new homes.
Video Lessons from the Week
For those following along on YouTube, you know I’ve been documenting these sales in my videos on Parishable Store channel. I aim to share not just what sold, but the backstory—where I found the items, how much they cost, and their final destinations. For example, my latest video explored the importance of patience when waiting for the right buyer and the power of storytelling in reselling.
Moving Forward
Each week at Parishable Store tells a new story. The items I list might seem like just stuff, but they often carry more value than meets the eye—whether it’s a practical device like the answering machine or an unexpected milestone like our first sale to the Virgin Islands.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this week, it’s that reselling is about more than profit; it’s about connection. Whether it’s a simple sale, a memorable offer, or an item with a story, every piece has a purpose.
Here’s to another week of finding homes for hidden treasures. Stay tuned for more stories, both here and on my YouTube channel!
